To avoid the long upgrading storyline getting too stale I felt like there needed to be a side story which would eventually evolve into something bigger. I’ve said it many times, but I absolutely love Waspinator and it was an easy choice to have him be a major part of the side story, especially on the terms in which he left off with Megatron and the other Decepticons. Plus, I had been sitting on bringing Blackarachnia into the comic for quite some time anyway, so wanting to use Waspinator worked perfectly.

I really could have condensed these five comics down into two or three but I wanted to take my time explaining what part of the Beast Wars timeline this Blackarachnia was from, how she got to Knockora-Offina, get the basis of a plan going and of course show that although Waspinator may be invulnerable to being blown up, he could still easily get beat up and kept in line.

Obviously Maynard needed to move on to upgrade some Autobots (if you’ve made it this far into the comic, you should know it would be fairly apparent that is where the story is going next) so Megatron letting him go in an obviously horrible plan based on hope and wishes. Nothing else is all that notable.

The best part of this comic in my opinion is Shockwave being treated poorly by everyone once again. The rest isn’t terrible, Swindle is always a fun character to use because of how sleazy he is, but it’s also easy to just fall into the comfortable norm and not try to do anything besides focus on his sleaze, which is obviously what I did here.

This is another comic I was very happy with from inception to completion. I was very eager to introduce Cyclonus into the comic. Like Scourge, exactly who Unicron used as base material for him in the 1986 animated movie is one of the more highly debated cases in the Transformers fan base. I decided to reference the first season of the Generation 1 cartoon here, where duplicates of the Seekers were always running around in the background due to lack of Decepticon characters as well as the always pesky animation errors. I had hoped whoever read the comic would think for an instant that I might have upgraded Thundercracker into Cyclonus but I can’t say for sure how successful I was with that.
